Scalf Field Rules
Enacted by the CAM Membership on December 7, 2024
General Rules
1. All solo RC vehicle operators must be AMA members and must comply with the AMA safety code and the CAM field rules as posted at the field.
2. All CAM members are responsible for ensuring safe activities at the field and shall point out any unsafe activities to the offender.
3. All pilots and spectators must conduct themselves in a safe and courteous manner at all times.
4. Spectators are always welcome and must remain behind the fence in the Ramada and picnic table areas unless accompanied by an AMA member pilot.
5. At no time shall an aircraft be flown toward the Ramada or spectator areas.
6. Chasing birds or other wildlife with aircraft is forbidden.
Fixed Wing Aircraft
1. Aircraft must be restrained while being prepared for flight.
2. Pilots must fly their aircraft from behind the pilot fence. The pilot fence is approximately 40 feet west of the pit area retaining wall.
3. The flight line is 25 feet in front of (west) the pilot fence and extends right and left to the perimeter fences and to infinity vertically. Aircraft are never to be taken off, flown, or landed on the east side of the flight line.
4. Pilots must announce their intention to take off, to land, to do a touch-and-go, to perform a low pass over the field and clear when their aircraft is clear of the runway. Announcements must be loud enough for both pilots and spectators to hear.
5. Pilots with powered on aircraft must announce themselves when passing other pilots at the pilot fence.
6. Aircraft must never be taxied toward people.
7. Deadstick landing and aircraft in trouble shall be loudly announced (“Deadstick”) and shall have the right-of-way to the flight pattern and runway.
8. Turns to final approach for landing at the north end of the field shall be made beyond the north perimeter fence except when flying conditions make it otherwise inadvisable.
9. No engine restarts are allowed on the runway. No exceptions.
10. No more than 5 aircraft shall be flown at a time. This excludes gliders flown outside of the flight pattern.
11. When other aircraft are flying or other pilots are waiting to fly, 3D and aerobatic flying shall be done west of the runway boundary.
12. The flight pattern is a right to left circuit following the prevailing wind direction. If there is a shift in the wind direction, the pilot shall announce his intention to reverse the flight pattern.
Glider rules
1. Glider launches shall be made from the pilot line on the west side of the pit area.
2. After launching a glider from the pilot line fence, the pilot may fly from the spectator area if the aircraft is beyond the flight pattern.
3. When departing or approaching the field area, gliders shall follow the flight pattern.
Rotary aircraft
The concrete pad north of the pit area is available for rotary aircraft launch and landing. Rotary aircraft must otherwise comply with all fixed-wing aircraft rules.
RC ground vehicles
RC ground-vehicle operations will be restricted to the track area south of the Ramada between the parking lot and the east runway fence and to the parking lot.
